Optimism Journal for Kids
This journal offers three week’s worth of reflections to promote positive thinking. Reflections can be filled out individually, or can be used as conversation starters. Example responses are provided to help guide you through.
Focusing on happy thoughts and remembering the things in your life that you are grateful for makes you happier. You might wonder why or how? Well, your brain likes to do familiar things. If you spend a lot of time thinking negatively, your brain learns to look for and think about the bad stuff in life. We all have an innate negativity bias that kept us safe in the stone-age by scanning the world for threats. Nowadays, we do not need to spend as much time looking for dangers in life, we do not need to focus so much on the negatives. Thanks to neuroplasticity, we can train our brain to focus on the positive things in life, making us more optimistic people. Because, the more time you spend thinking about the good stuff in life, the more your brain will focus on the good things, making you a happier, more hopeful person.
